The Typing Test

Test takers will access the typing test applet over the Internet or intranet using their web browser. For them to be able to do this, you need to give to them the URL of the Test Applet or, rather, place the link on your web pages.

When they click on the link or enter the URL in their web browser, the typing test applet is launched.

The typing test applet is very easy to use and guides test takers at each stage. The following list goes through all the steps that test takers need to complete.

The typing test process

To access the typing test applet, click on the link on our web pages or enter the URL in the web browser.

On the first screen of the Test Applet:
1. Select test duration, unless fixed by the test administrator.

2. Select typing test

3. Click 'Begin' to get to the actual test screen.

On the test screen of the applet:
4. Begin to copy the text shown on the top window to the bottom window. Type until the program stops the clock. When the set time runs out, the Applet will immediately continue to the result screen.

6. On the result screen, click 'Next' to go to give contact information.

7. On the personal information screen, enter personal information into the fields as instructed and click'Next' to send results to the test administrator.

8. On the last screen confirming that results have been sent, click 'Next' to finish. The Applet should now redirect to the starting page of the typing test.

If you want to retake the test, follow the steps from the beginning.

To close the Applet, click on the 'X' on the top right hand corner of the Applet.

Basic functionality

In the typing test the test taker will copy the text you have selected. During the test, Backspace can be used to make corrections. However, once the space bar is pressed after a word, the word is considered final and no corrections can be made to it.

If a word is jumped over during the test, the highlight showing the test takers position in the text, will automatically jump to the correct word position. Although missing a word is considered to be an error, no error is marked on screen during typing. This will help keep typing fluent. If more than one word are skipped, the program will mark the typed word as incorrect and highlight the correct position in the text.
