If you cannot start the TypingMasterServer service on Local Computer first step is to search for error message "Address already in use" from log files ( tmlms_err.log/ stderr.log/stdout.log) from /tmintra/logs or /tmintra3/logs folders.

If you find this error message it means that you have another web server software (perhaps IIS ?) running on the same port, this is a critical conflict and the software that starts first will get the web address taken and others receive error.

Your choices:
1. You could configure TypingMaster software to use another port e.g. 8080 but this would require that each student starts using a new link instead (such as http://yourserver:8080" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://yourserver:8080 instead of http://yourserver )

This port change can be done by editing the text file at c:/program files/tmintra3/conf/server.properties and then restarting TypingMaster server, OR reinstalling TypingMaster Intra and choosing another port during the setup process.

2. Best option would be to stop the conflicting web server service from Control Panel (look for IIS / TomCat / Apache or similar web server that you may have running) and then click "Start TypingMaster Server" from Start menu.

You can try to investigate which software is taking port 80 from TypingMaster Server, more information here: http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/alphaforum/showthread.php?t=57516
