BACKGROUND OF JAVA PROBLEMS IN WIN2003:
This article is related to the following errors happening with Win2003 LIMITED USER account.
- TypingMaster Java Tutor does not start, you receive error
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source)
- Java cannot start at all.
- Activex tutor may say: "database directory not found"
- if limited user goes to following link, Sun JAVA JRE gives Loading Error (or IE web browser closes the whole page):
http://www.TypingMaster.com/support/test-tool
TEST CASE:
LOGIN to Windows 2003 Terminal Server with limited user (student account):
- go to CMD.EXE and give command c:>dir %appdata% to see free disk space
OR
- start notepad and try to save a test file to folder
%appdata%\test.txt
If you receive "OUT OF DISK SPACE" then strict disk quota is blocking all file saving.
There are multiple ways how admin can fix the "out of disk space" situation:
- Increase the disk quota for all students (from My computer/C-Drive/Properties/Quota)
OR
- clean TEMP folders from user profile folders, notice that TEMP files will take a lot of space. E.g. JAVA may take up to 1 GB disk space
OR
- Go to My computer/C-Drive/Properties/Quota and disable "Deny disk space to users exceeding quota limit" checkbox and click OK.
