I am looking to edit one of my lessons. I would like to trim it down for my sixth grade classes and enable them to actually get through the lessons using all of the keys. If I change my original Touch Typing lesson how can I create a backup and then how can I import it back in when I need too. And if anyone has a easy way of editing the lessons I would like to hear about it. Thanks, Andrew

Hello Andrew,

First of all its best to make a full backup, you could copy the whole TypingMaster/Lessons folder to a safe place or use integrated BACKUP feature available in TypingMaster Manager / File Menu. This will create a standard zip file you can access later with WinZip or similar if necessary.

Next step is to use Study Material Editor to adjust the lessons as you wish. If you make any structural changes to the course/drill types your changes will be saved in .CNT course file. Changes to the drills will be stored to small .EXC exercise text files. When you use Study Material Editor to edit texts, only studied keys can be entered, e.g. you cannot by mistake use letter 'X' in Lesson 1 drills.

Good luck!

Andrew,

To add to John's excellent advice, with the Study Material Editor, you can even create entirely new courses for some of your classes. If you cannot see the Study Material Editor in your computer's Start Menu, you will find it in the TypingMaster program files on the server (browse to the TypingMaster folder and find TMEditor.exe).

If you have used Netsetup to distribute TypingMaster on student workstations, they need to be updated for your changes to take effect. This is easy to do with the User Manager.
1. Open the Manager and go to Licenses tab
2. Click on Select All
3. Click on Upgrade Workstations
Now that you have done this, the next time TypingMaster is used on a student workstation, Netsetup will run automatically and install your course updates.

If student workstations access the server installation through a shortcut, then you do not need to do anything, your updates will be available immediately.

Thank you all for the quick responses. I knew there was a reason that I choose this program over all others...other than it is the best typing program out there. You guys rock.
