Should all students start with home row keys?

We are considering Typing Master Online for our middle school typing classes. The students come to the class with various levels of keyboarding experience. Is there an assessment available that will help determine which level/lesson individual students should start in? Or do you suggest that they all begin with the home row keys and move through all of the lessons? Also, is there a way to set individual user settings, rather than group settings? For example, requiring some students in the class to complete all activities in a lesson before moving on and allowing others to move on by just passing the lesson test?
Thanks.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
TypingMaster Online has a typing test feature with which you can set up an assessment to gauge students' typing skills. Based on the assessment, you can then assign users to groups with specific configuration to their skill level (available courses, lesson duration, pass limit for lesson exams and final test etc.). TypingMaster does not feature recommended starting levels or automatic placement, we leave it up to the teacher to decide what activities students should complete.
If a student needs to go through a typing course, then we recommend that everyone starts from the homerow and go through the entire course. You can choose to use the easier and shorter Junior Course or the more thorough Touch Typing Course.
TypingMaster typing tutors do not feature user settings for the courses. However, for individual users you can enable a setting called "Bypass lesson lock" which lets them progress through the course without having to complete all exercises or lesson exams. Bypassing lesson locks is an ON/OFF feature, if used, it clears all progress restrictions for the selected user and it is up to the teacher to make sure these students complete the lesson exams.
If a student's pre-assessment shows fairly good typing skills, you could have them complete the Speedbuilding course which reviews all key locations and provides additional training.
I recommend that you create a trial account for your school to test all features without demo limitations. After creating the free trial, please contact us for a 30-day full evaluation license.

I hope this is of help, if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask.
