Hi,

This seems very strange. Did you do an upgrade from TypingMaster Intra 2 where you updated all your users and data as well or did you do a clean install?

Are all your students able to start the lesson but only one at a time, or is there only one specific computer that works when others don't? If the problem is the former, the problem could be related to Mac OS X and its 10 connection limit (more information here ). If the problem is the latter, make sure that you don't have any firewalls blocking the application on the iMac you are running on. Also make sure that you have updated your OS X software via the software update, so that all updates to Java are downloaded.

Note that the new TypingMaster Intra 3.0 no longer supports Mac OS 9. Only OS X is supported.

If these instructions didn't solve your problem, please write back giving as much detail as possible and I will look further at the problem.

I just got upgraded to Intra 3 and have created all my users. Only one user is able to get to the Home row lesson at a time however. All are able to log on, but only one student in the class is able to access the first Home Row lesson.

The program is installed currently on an iMac, but will be moved to a server within the next few days. The license is a site license, so more than one student should still be able to access the program at this time.

HELP!

Hello T,

Since TypingMaster Pro 7 is a file based application, it needs to have the proper access to all files located in file server all the time. The system error 53 is always critical, it means that the connection between workstation and server was dropped and this will cause some lost data.

Please let me know the exact versions of both TypingMaster and Novell File Server you are using. There are some situations when e.g. opportunistic locking on a Novell file server v5/v6 may cause 3rd party application errors. You could start by adjusting these two opplock settings to see if it affects:

SET CLIENT FILE CACHING ENABLED=OFF
SET LEVEL 2 OPLOCKS ENABLED=OFF

Please also see TypingMaster/database/ERRORS.LOG file for the full list of errors, you may find a pattern, e.g. some heavy load on file server daily at same time. To reduce server load, you could use TypingMaster NETSETUP feature to keep some of the largest files in workstation hard drive.

Below is a good article that lists the most common (novell) network error situations and how to fix these:

Redirector Problems and Other Network Problems

And the computer is not loosing actual network access when this happens (or at least not that I've seen) because they can get to everything else on the network.

I checked this forum a few weeks ago and saw this "Novell File Error - Write+Read+Erase rights needed" and I tried that (because we use Novell) which seemed to help some but now I'm back to square one with the error's given above. It's only happening randomly to students so I'm not sure why this is happening. Any further suggestions would be MUCH appreciated! Thank you.

Message from Tuomas

By default TypingMaster Intra uses an internal database to store all user data. However if you have lots of users and many teachers creating complex reports the internal database may slow down. In such a case we recommend using a separate database server such as MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server. These products offer better performance and improved data integrity. We have created a tool for migrating your data from the internal database to a separate server.

This tool will dump the contents of the internal database into a standard sql dump file and allow you to migrate this data to a new SQL server. Please follow these steps to transfer your data to a new database:

First stop your TypingMaster Intra server from the TypingMaster Intra Start -menu.

Then download the database dump tool from here:
http://download.typingmaster.com/misc/tmintra_db2sql.zip

Unzip this package to the "webapps\tmintra\appdata" subfolder of your TypingMaster Intra installation folder.
(Usually this is "C:\Program Files\tmintra\webapps\tmintra\appdata") Once you have done this, run the db2sql.bat

This will create a dump.sql with all the data of the database as SQL INSERT commands.

Now you will need to create a new database for TypingMaster Intra with the new database server you are going to use. Note: Most databases come with administrative tools that let you import SQL data from a dump file. If you have not installed these kinds of tools for your database, do so now.

Create a database and a database user for TypingMaster Intra in your database server. Then create a database structure for the new database by running a database creation script which can be found in the "webapps\tmintra\appdata" subfolder. Open the following the script file which corresponds to your database server in a text editor. The files are as follows:

MySQL: com.mysql.jdbc.Driver.sql
Oracle: oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver.sql
Other SQL databases: default.sql
Internal HSQLDB database: internal.sql

Now copy all rows except the last one (beginning with INSERT INTO) to the clipboard. Paste the copied CREATE TABLE commands to your database tool's SQL window and click on "Execute all commands" or similar.

Once you have created the structure, import the data by importing the dump.sql file with your database tool. If your database tool does not support importing script/dump files you can try to copy and paste the contents of the file. However, you may have to do this in multiple steps because the file may be too big for the clipboard.

Now that you have imported your data delete the custom_lmsconfig.properties from your "appdata" subfolder. This file has the old database settings stored.

Now start the TypingMaster Intra server and go to the web address of your TypingMaster Intra.

You will be taken to the setup screen. There enter in the information for your new database. If you have not downloaded a JDBC driver for your database, the setup will guide you in installing this. After you have entered your database information, you will be taken into the login screen, since the program will notice that your database has already been set up and is running.

Now all your data is moved to the new server and you can log in normally to TypingMaster Intra.
