TypingMaster & Flash – Tips For Added Security
November 4, 2015
Although the use of Flash in TypingMaster courses is secure, we understand that recent events in the news regarding Flash’s security have made some users hesitant to use the plug-in. TypingMaster wants to reassure customers about the security of our courses and share some information that we think users will appreciate.
We are happy to inform you that our developers are busy converting TypingMaster courses to HTML5 format. After the release, which is expected in August to coincide with the start of the 2016 school year, courses will no longer require the Flash plug-in.
The new format will bring relief to many customers. In the meantime, we have a helpful tip for improved security while using Flash; by enabling Click-to-play, web content that requires a plug-in will be disabled by default providing a useful security control.
Follow the instructions below to enable Click-to-play:
You can make Firefox require click-to-play by going to Tools -> Add-ons -> Plug-ins and changing the drop-down to Ask to Activate.
Click Chrome’s Menu button and select Settings to open the Settings page. Click Show Advanced Settings, click Content Settings under Privacy, scroll down to Plug-ins, and select Click-to-play.
Click the gear icon on Internet Explorer’s toolbar and select Manage Add-ons.
Select Toolbars and Extensions, click the Show box, and select All Add-ons. Locate the Shockwave Flash Object plug-in under Adobe Systems Incorporated, right-click it, and select More information. Click the Remove All Sites button and Flash won’t automatically load on any website you visit.
Click the Opera Menu button, select Settings, and select Websites on the Settings page. Enable the Click-to-play option under Plug-ins.
Open Safari, click the Safari menu, and select Preferences. Click the Security icon and click Manage Website Settings to the right of Internet plug-ins. Select a plug-in, click the When Visiting Other Websites box, and select Ask.
