Just started using this program in my school, and it's working quite well. I have a request for future features:

1. Setting minimum passing Net Speed scores for tests based on groups, not just by individual tests. I've created groups by grade level, and the minimum passing WPM is different for 4th graders than it is for 8th graders, for example.

2. Export data to create custom reports.

If these features are already available, and I've just missed them, then my apologies!

Thanks!

Dear Customer,

Please specify if you are using TypingMaster Pro or TypingMaster Intra/Online products.

TypingMaster Online and Intra have export available in Tools section.

If you use TypingMaster Pro 7, you can export data from TypingMaster Manager / File menu.

Thank you for the prompt reply!

I'm using TypingMaster Pro 7, and yes, I saw that I can export a user list, but this list shows very little data. I would love to be able to create spreadsheets and create graphs for users, groups that show trends and progress.

Thank you.

Hi there,

New TypingMaster Intra has a new feature that will allow you to export eg. course results of a specific group, lesson & test results or all lesson, exercise & test results.

To export the lists login to TypingMaster Intra Manager > Tools > Export Study Data to Excel.

Furthermore you can setup different pass limits in each lesson for specific groups in TypingMaster Intra.

Currently we have no plans of adding these features to TypingMaster Pro.

Dear Jlavin,

TypingMaster Intra has a lot of advanced features that are not available in TypingMaster Pro 7, but there are still some workarounds available that allow you to perform similar tasks with TypingMaster Pro 7.

1: Your request to set up different pass limits for different groups: You can do this by duplicating either course(s) or test(s) and assigning the duplicate ones to different groups with different settings. To duplicate the typing test, just create a new test with unique name such as "Typing Test for Group 1" and copy+paste the test text from existing Test to new one. If you like to duplicate a whole typing course, its necessary to use TypingMaster Study Material Editor. I can post more details if you need to do this.

2: Exporting student progress data to Excel: If you look inside .USR files (from TypingMaster database folder) you will notice that these are kind of CSV files. You could use command shell command "copy *.usr mydata.csv" to combine all user files to one and then open this data file from excel. You will surely need to tune the data a little, but you may find this tip useful for your purposes. Perhaps you like to make your own Excel Macro that creates some nice reports from your student files.

Hi akash,

We have currently no plans of creating a shorthand typing tutor. Please have a look at this link to study stenography:

I've having Typing Master Pro 7 for some time now, and I was kind of surprised to come onto the site and not see a version 8. I've used it for a while when I need to check up on my typing skills, and I think I had 6 for a while as well. I am an instructor who mainly teaches Microsoft Office classes, but I was recently asked to begin teaching typing classes as well. We actually use a McGraw-Hill program at the school. For the most part I like TypingMaster better because it does pay more attention to errors and net speed as you go through each lesson. It also has a wider variety of types of drills. It takes you slower, which is I guess both good and bad because it can make the course take longer.

Two small things I have noticed that I like better about the other program are that the other use speech and the display hands are not static. It doesn't just pop-up with an instruction like on TypingMaster. A voice actually says use the X finger for this letter or use the same thing as letter X to type this letter." Also the display hand is not the same before and during the lessons. With TpyingMaster it is. On the other program it actually gives a demonstration of the hand reaching for the key and moving back to home position. It's something that could be done at the "New Key" step. These are the only two features that really stuck out to me when I first used the other program.

The other program gives more frequent full-text/paragraph test set to different time limits, but I cannot comment on this in TypingMaster as I've only played with the demo of TypingMaster Instra a little bit.

Thank you for the valuable feedback, its good to receive these feature requests - we will surely consider having the voice feature and animated hands in our future versions.

TypingMaster has lately focused to improve our newer web-based TypingMaster Intra/Online/LMS products, we have just released an updated LMS 4 release (Moodle compatible solution) and now our development team is working fulltime with a new TypingMaster Online 2011 update.

Here are some good news for TypingMaster Pro users as well:
We have lately finished the annual TypingMaster Pro update - the version number is now 7.1 and this update is at the moment available at our support FTP site (FOC). This update features e.g. the coloured keyboard that is already available in TypingMaster Intra/Online. We will post more details about this update a bit later.
