Chrome users have been facing a problem recently with java applet not loading. The problem is caused by a known recent bug in the Google Chrome browser:
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=62076

Our technical team has fixed the issue and Java should now work fine in TypingMaster Online with Chrome.

I believe I am still running into this problem.

I am using the latest version of both Chrome and Java.

I would like to use your software for my typing classes but the Chrome incompatibility is a deal breaker. I would really appreciate it if you took another look at the bug.

Thanks!

Over the past couple versions, Google has implemented various features in Chrome designed to increase the plug-in security. Now Google is taking this a little bit further and Chrome requires permission to run the Java plug-ins.

Users now need to authorize running Java either on a per-site or per-launch basis. Chrome users will see a yellow infobar when Java plug-in is needed, with text "The Java plug-in needs your permission to run". We recommend option "Always run on this site" is granted so that you only need to grant the permission once.

Thank you for your reply. When I access the online typing demo thru the "Education"" tab--> Products-->Typing Master Online--> "Try For Free", Chrome and Java work fine together.

I posted yesterday after I had tried to access the online typing demo thru the "Personal" tab-->Products-->Typing Master Online-->"Check out the online demo" link. This is where Chrome gave me the error message that Java would not load

FYI-Here is the url that Chrome had trouble with: http://online.typingmaster.com/studentlogin?id=demo&student_login=demo&student_pass=demo

Thank you again for your quick reply.

Hello again,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The site on our education and business pages was recently updated but the single-user version lagged behind a bit. We have now fixed the problem and the program should work with Chrome without issues.

Let us know if you still can't access the Java applet with Chrome.

We're having the same problem with Safari. Kids sit and wait and wait and wait while the applet is supposed to be loading. We've had kids who will sit in a 45 minute class and NEVER get into the site. Restart the browser, restart the computer, refresh the page -- NOTHING.

The only solution we had was to use Firefox which SEEMS to work better, but, of course, is much more insecure, but I guess less insecure than Internet Explorer.

We were told that it was a problem with the cache, but that's just plain nonsense. I suspect it's because Safari demands more authentication from a website than most programmers want to fuss with.

We had the same problems last year, though. I don't know why we renewed.

Running Java on Mac OS 10.7 Lion

Have you recently upgraded to Mac OS 10.7? The Java runtime is no longer installed automatically as part of the OS installation. If you are using Lion and TypingMaster Online does not launch the lessons, please follow these instructions to add Java to Lion:

* Go to Applications > Utilities > Java Preferences.
* Open the Java Preferences.
* If Java is not installed, you receive the following message:
“To open “Java Preferences," you need a Java runtime. Would you like to install one now?”
* Click Install and accept the license agreement. The Java runtime is downloaded and installed.

Hi again,

Could you send us the contents of Java console from one of the computers that do not load the Java applet, please?

Here are the instructions for opening the Java console on Mac:

The Java Console is disabled by default. You must first enable it, then restart your browser:

Navigate to the following folder: Applications > Utilities > Java.

Click the Java Preferences icon.

Click the Advanced tab.

Under the Java console section, select the Show console radio button.

Close and re-open your browser. You will see the Java Console appear as a separate window.

With the console open, start studying again to reproduce the error and copy the information to a reply email.

Note: The Java console will continue to appear while it is activated. To deactivate it, go back to the Java Preferences and deselect the Show console radio button.

Next typing class isn't until tomorrow. I'll try to grab that information when it happens. It appears to be a random event - that is, not a single kid or a single laptop. But it does SEEM to affect how quickly OTHER users log on. For example, I don't have the problem with small groups of kids, say < 5-6. I don't think it's an internet connection issue, we run a 50/4 cable pipe and Aruba 135WAPS (455mbps @ the WAP). Doubt it's an infrastructure issue. I'll try to grab the info you need. It DOES appear to be a Java issue.

There are four typing classes remaining this week. I'll try to verify whether it's one machine or random machines. I know it's random kids and they are all assigned specific machines. So, therefore, I'd assume it's random machines as well.
