How to Upgrade to TypingMaster Pro 7

Upgrading

There are two options when upgrading from previous versions. A Clean Install which loses previous user data and settings and an Upgrade Install which keeps user information and some settings.

TypingMaster highly recommends a Clean Install where possible. The main reason for this is the new study material. By doing an Upgrade Install you will keep the old course material and may leave the interface cluttered with the many courses. A Clean Install will emphasize the new material created especially for TypingMaster Pro 7.

If you purchased TypingMaster Pro after January 1st, 2006, you are entitled to a free upgrade. If you purchased before April 2006 please contact us to update your license key.

How to: Upgrade install

An upgrade install is possible when

  1. Back up your data is the first step. This is just a precautionary measure and something you should be doing on a regular basis when possible. Back up your user data by making a copy of the Database folder inside the TypingMaster folder. Example location: \\Yourserver\TypingMaster\database

To also keep your group information you will need to copy any grp files in the TypingMaster folder. The files always begin with a number so:
    0.Grp
    1.Grp
    2.Grp

There will be one file for each group you have. Keeping a backup of these files will ensure your data is kept safely.

  2. Download the latest copy of TypingMaster Pro 7 to your Desktop from here. Double-click the installer package to begin the installation process.
  3. During the installer select the same folder location on your server* and be sure to select the "School/Company install" option.
